As Widely speculated, Samsung revealed the launch date of its flagship smartphone — Galaxy S8 — at its very first event at Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC 2017). The company launched two new tablets, Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book at the event.
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, as Galaxy S8’s event is called, will take place on March 29 11am EDT (8.30 PM IST) in New York, US. The Samsung Galaxy S8 launch event will also be live streamed on the company’s website.
“On March 29, Samsung Electronics will unveil the newest Galaxy as part of its endeavour to unbox your phone. The forthcoming addition to the Galaxy lineup represents the start of a new era, by reshaping the device that has over the years become an indispensable tool in our everyday lives,” reads Samsung’s invite for the event.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 so far doesn’t look like the company’s best-kept secret. As the handset has already appeared in several alleged leaked images and in third-party retailers listingl. The smartphone is expected to have very thin bezels on top and bottom, offering a higher screen-to-body ratio.
Samsung too seems to have teased its handset in couple of advertisement videos on YouTube.
According to the alleged leaked images, there is no physical home button at the front. The images indicate that the smartphone will have on-screen navigation buttons. The top bezel leaves just enough space to include the speaker grille, front-facing camera, iris scanner and proximity/ambient light sensors.
The fingerprint sensor at the front has been moved to the back, besides the camera. The other side of the camera sports dual-tone LED flash and autofocus sensor.
Reports also claim that Galaxy S8 will come in two variants, based on screen sizes of 5.5-inch and 6.2-inch. Both the screen will have QuadHD resolution SuperAmoled displays. Due to different sizes, the battery capacity in both models may also be different — 3,000mAh and 3,500mAh respectively.
A recent VentureBeat report said that Galaxy S8 will run on Snapdragon 835 processor. However, select regions versions may run on the company’s own Exynos 9 chipset.
The RAM size on both will be limited to 4GB, with 64GB being base storage size. Users are likely to get an expandable storage option up to 256GB.
As for the imaging duties, Galaxy S8 models are said to come with 12MP rear camera along with an 8MP front-facing camera. Both are supposed to have f/1.7 aperture. It has been reported before by SamMobile website that the cameras will have new visual search functionality, while the front-facing snapper will come with an iris scanner.
