AB de Villiers will be on standby if Virat Kohli is not fit for the start of the IPL next week against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). According to Daniel Vettori, Royal Challenger’s head coach, Kohli will join the squad on April 2 and then reassess a date of return with the team’s medical staff.
Virat Kohli faced hand injury while fielding during the third Test in Ranchi, forcing him to miss his first five-day game in 54 matches.
The IPL begins on 5 April and the Royal Challengers Bangalore face defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opener.
Fortunately, RCB has a number of exceptional batsmen who haven’t got more playing chances like Sarfaraz Khan and Mandeep Singh. It’s a huge asset for RCB that someone else can fill in those gaps.
The likely scenario is that de Villiers will take over the duties of Virat Kohli.
