UP government exempts PhD holders from NET for assistant professors post

Those who have obtained their PhD degree on or before July 11, 2009 are eligible for post of assistant professors in state universities and government-run colleges from the National Eligibility Test (NET).

The vacancy of post for assistant professor was found to be 5651 where there were 138 government and 338 government aided colleges with 269 in 17 universities of UP.

“This exemption will fill the vacant seats and is hoped for enhancement of quality teaching in higher educational institutions” says Dinesh Sharma, deputy chief minister.

“This exemption will not only fill vacant seats but also creates employment opportunities and further ads that this proposal had been rejected by the previous state government ” says Maulindu Mishra the former president of higher education teachers association.

In July 11, 2009, as per UGC regulation, minimum qualification for appointing new lectures and other academic staff in universities and maintaining the standard in higher education (3rd amendment) should be governed by the provisions of ordinances of the institution awarding degree at that time and the lads will be exempted from NET examinations for the recruitment and appointed of assistant professor in universities and colleges.
This is applicable for the candidates who have obtained their PhD degree on regular mode and provided their work thesis are evaluated by at least two external examiners.

It is also stated that the candidates should have presented two papers in seminars or conferences from outside their PhD work.
