Former New York Yankees Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez have remarkably different personalities. The Yankees chose an 18-year-old Jeter out of Kalamazoo Central High School in Michigan with the sixth overall selection in the 1992 Major League Baseball Draft. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Jeter debuted as a Yankee in the Bronx on May 29, 1995. Over his first six full seasons donning pinstripes, the legendary ladies’ man captured the 1996 American League Rookie of the Year award, earned six All-Star selections and won the 2000 World Series MVP trophy. Much to Jeter’s chagrin, the Bronx Bombers unwisely acquired a 29-year-old Rodriguez from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Alfonso Soriano and a player to be named later in February 2004. Although once tight, the egomaniacal Rodriguez inexplicably badmouthed Jeter during a handful of interviews and permanently destroyed their bond.
“Jeter’s been blessed with great talent around him,” Rodriguez said in a March 2001 interview with Esquire magazine.
“He’s never had to lead. He can just go and play and have fun. He hits second – that’s different than third or fourth in a lineup. You go into New York, you wanna stop Bernie (Williams) and (Paul) O’Neill. You never say, ‘Don’t let Derek beat you.’ He’s never your concern.”
The Yankees remained perennial title contenders with A-Rod manning third base. However, curiously, the Boston Red Sox broke their 86-year curse in Rodriguez’s initial campaign as a Yankee. Furthermore, the Yankees failed to win a crown for nearly a decade with A-Rod employed on River Avenue and 161st Street in the Bronx. Rodriguez discussed his frosty relationship with Jeter in February 2007.
“People start assuming that things are a lot worse than what they are, which they’re not,” said Rodriguez, one of the primary faces of the steroid era.
“But they’re obviously not as great as they used to be. We were like blood brothers. You don’t have to go to dinner with a guy four, five times a week to do what you’re doing. I just want to let the truth be known.”
While Jeter married Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Hannah Davis in July 2016, Rodriguez is currently dating singer Jennifer Lopez. Accordingly, let’s review pictures of both beauties and decide if Davis or Lopez is more attractive.
